Frankenhouse

I have made a big painting on a piece of wood of rooms and trends throughout the years. I wanted to show how trends and times impact the way people live and I wanted it all to be together. After thinking I wanted it to be like you're walking through and experiencing the rooms, so the outside door is 3D, and then as you go up the stairs you see the rest of the house from the inside. I used acrylic paint, and air drying clay for the door. I wanted a range of colours to add variety in every room.

Band Merch

I have exhibited two band merchandise outcomes for a punk band who study at Suffolk New College! With my theme being ‘Britpop’ and ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’, I have explored many different ways to convey the theme through illustration, typography and photography. I was very thorough in my planning and development process, specifically in the use of colour scheme and typography choices, as I wanted them to represent the grungy nature of the band pictured, as well as popping out from the page nicely. I hope the band feels it depicts their personalities and genre well!

Mythology Puzzle

I have exhibited a collection of 4 pen drawings. The 4 pieces fit together into a puzzle. With my theme being Greek mythology and folklore, I have researched different stories on the monsters, so I could recreate them with how I see them instead. The dragon one has more of a snake like aspect to represent the fact it was seen as a snake like creature. With the fairy drawing the fairy has more of an aura aspect, because I don’t see a fairy by having a physical being. They are more of a spiritual being to me. The 3 headed dog is my representation of Cerberus, hell’s guard dog. The other piece is my vision of a siren. I believe they look very similar to mermaids, however with the fact their tails are more harsh and rough.

Zen Building

For my FMP I have made a zen building truly inspired by the modern South Korean culture with a peaceful front zen garden. I wanted to portray the calm atmosphere filled with open windows to bring in the natural light. I chose this subject to take on as the traditional South Korean culture is so fascinating to research about, especially the artists themselves. My biggest inspiration throughout this project is Moon Hoon, a South Korean architect.

Tribes and Cultures

I have created an animation which depicts the beauty of Polish culture as well as the horrible side of Polish society, mainly the way politicians view LGBTQ+ people. I have mainly researched Polish national clothing as I find it to be very prominent when thinking about Poland and Polish culture. The character in the animation is doing the traditional Polish dance which would be performed while wearing such clothing, while a screen containing a quote from a Polish archbishop is flashed on screen. The image attached displays the character with clothing which instead of being digitally coloured in, is coloured with the use of pictures of fabric, most similar to the one which would normally make up the clothing.

Punk Culture

I have exhibited a collection of final outcomes, including a hand sewn rabbit and photographs which represent different aspects of punk culture. Within the theme of “punk culture”, I have explored different ways to create portraits of punk icons, but also provided context to each piece. The hand sewn rabbit represents Courtney Love, a huge punk icon, while the punk photographs I took are created to look like they were taken in the prime punk era of the late 1970’s.

Social Media and Cancel Culture

I have exhibited a painting which represents different aspects of ‘Cancel Culture’ and ‘Social Media’ culture. With my theme being ‘Cancel Culture’, I have explored different ways to create a modern and relatable art piece, and with this exhibited piece I have not only created a painting that generations can connect with, but also provided context to each development stage. The posture of the girl  in the acrylic painting reflects the mental toll that social media has on people's lives, while the laptop screen reflects the news articles of the wrong acts that these people have done in order to get canceled by the media.

Football Culture

I have exhibited two oil paintings. One of Portman Road (Ipswich Town Football Stadium) and the other is The Abbey Stadium (Cambridge United Football Stadium. The aim of these paintings is to show that every team has a home and their own culture. I have also knitted a scarf of Cambridge United colours which shows other fans the team you support. I also made the scarf because I recently found out that knitting helps me relax and helps my mental health. Lastly I added an Ipswich Town inspired dog model to my work which links with the football culture the dog is wearing an Ipswich Town shirt. The dog was a paw-sitivity project done to raise funds for Suffolk Libraries.

Musical Headlines

I have made a collection of lino prints based on 4 different musical headlines. With my interest in musicals and using typography, I have explored different designers, printmakers and typographic artists and taken inspiration from them, especially Paula Scher and Mary Kate McDevitt. The different coloured papers reflect the mood each musical gives you while watching them. The size of the lino is bigger than I've worked on before, but the size of each headline makes it stand out on the page. Displaying the pieces next to each other brings the colours together, and creates a cohesive collection.

Gay Cowboys

This zine discusses how cowboys are represented in the media. I have explored different ways that cowboys are represented in film, adverts etc and their relation to toxic masculinity and homosexuality. Each page features brief commentary on a different piece of media and how it presents cowboys or what it uses them to convey as well as a relevant image. Each image was created using fineliners in an intentionally slightly messy style in order to give off a rustic, western feel. The front and back cover are the same picture with minor differences so that the zine feels concluded by the time you reach the back page, especially as the front cover poses a question which the back cover answers. I also utilized the back space of the zine for a poster which is a recreation of a relevant artist’s work with some changes to it, adding to the cowboy theme.

GoldMask

The Radiant Goldmask is a symbol of hope and brighter futures, a symbol of the greater will, so I decided to replicate it.
A symbol of unobtainable peace.

Animal Eyes

I have exhibited two large scale tiger eye paintings. I decided to base my project on animals because I was able to show the emotions of the chosen animal through its eyes. This was important for me to include because it shows the history of animals and can show the amount of freedom an animal has. I chose to use acrylic paint because it allowed the colours to be vibrant.

Manananggal Clay Scene

I have exhibited a scene of the Manananggal fleeing from a burning building while carrying its victim's baby. I wanted the current focus of my work to be a moral message relating to good representation of others beliefs, and how that allows us to be more open minded and respectful, and so I want to show that respect through my artwork. The piece was created using air dry clay.

Supporting Women

I have created a variety of outcomes that are intended to be used as ways to show how the view of women has changed, and how it used to be displayed in the past. A lot of my project explored how women were presented in ancient Greek mythology, and also how women fought for equality, taking inspiration from other artists that make art about feminism. I have included a painting of Tim Minchin who writes songs and speaks up about equality between genders and races.

British Culture Through the London Underground

I have exhibited a piece inspired by the London Underground map, with British Culture incorporated into the map. Each sign at the end of every line is a part of British Culture. These then go into the British Culture sign in the middle of the board, showing that each aspect is connected to British Culture. I used the heart for the sign in the middle as I feel like this reflects the “heart” of British Culture. Also a plus side is the heart is red so it matches the Underground sign colour. I decided to work on a bigger scale to give the piece enough space visually. Also, I wanted to go out of my comfort zone and try something bigger.

Tribes & Cultures

I have exhibited a collection of cross prints and architectural experiments with foam-boards which represent different aspects of the Gothic interior style. With my  theme of Tribes & Cultures, I have explored different ways to replicate a Gothic interior style. With these exhibited pieces I have not only utilised lino-printing and foam-board, but also provided context to each piece. The dark colours in my work fit within the Gothic style and atmosphere, as it often uses dark colours, velvet materials and cross symbolism. The long length of wallpaper suits the long walls and tall ceilings often seen in Gothic style architecture.

Subcultures/Aesthetics

I have exhibited a large compilation of various figure illustrations  which represent different examples of subcultures. With my theme of Subcultures/aesthetics, I have explored different ways to illustrate figures and clothes, and with these exhibited pieces I have  not only created an interesting, detailed overall piece but also provided context to each individual aesthetic. The details for each of the outfits manage to represent each respective subculture, while the positioning of the people itself express the emotion, mood and movement behind each aesthetic. The large size of the paper makes the full composition more interesting and gives the right amount of space for any viewers to properly appreciate, while being displayed just as it is - without a frame and with space around it - shows the complexity yet individuality all in itself.

Femininity

I have exhibited a collection of sculptures and paintings  which represent different aspects of femininity. With my  theme being femininity, I have explored different ways to create a representation of the female form and with these exhibited pieces I have  not only created a representation but also provided context to each  piece. I wanted a wider body representation to be reflected in art because femininity should be celebrated through all aspects of art.

Fememenimintiy

I am exhibiting a large stylised acrylic painting of women. In my project I explored the theme of femininity, looking at feminism, body standards and female representation in the media. Through this work I wanted to present natural beauty, for the viewer to appreciate realistic beauty standards as opposed to the unhealthy body images we are constantly exposed to.
