Irregular Mindset

In this randomised display of work, I used multiple different methods to produce my work. I used a variety of paint, clay, digital software and a mixed assortment of fashion and textiles to explore mental health and individuality. I wanted to show that despite nothing making sense or aligning in my body of work it’s a small portion of what went through my mind in a small span of time. I think it’s important to do what you want to do, not specifically within the realm of creativity, but throughout your entire life. Don’t let society hold you back from watching all of the Shrek films for an art course!

Excudendi

I have exhibited a series of Greek Mythology inspired lino prints. I have presented them in a zine format, including different aspects of my art style and various bits of work. I have explored digital and physical work in the production of my final piece. I wanted to come out of my comfort zone for this project to challenge myself and produce something I was proud of. Working in A3 suited what I wanted to do as I could include a huge amount of detail which I’m not sure I could have achieved if I had worked in a smaller size. Displaying my prints in a zine brings to light my skills in other mediums of art rather than just singularly lino printing.

Where the World is Going

I have exhibited a large architectural model with the theme being utopian and dystopian futures. One side is cramped, foggy, dark whereas the other side is green, spacious and clean. The dystopian models are made out of air dry clay and foam board, whereas the utopian models are made out of wood. This is to reflect pollution and its effect on the environment. The utopia side features more natural materials like moss of different colors. Both sides have a similar style in Brutalism, the utopian side is Eco-Brutalism. I made this because right now as our world is in a standstill, our futures could go either way.

Spider-Man: No Way Home

I have exhibited a collection of figures based on the characters from Spider-Man: No Way Home. Understanding how to create the shape of the figures was the hardest part for me. However hard the challenge may be there is always a way, eventually I created them in a blocky style that sort of mimics the shape of Minecraft characters. This was something I hadn't seen anyone do with these characters before to my knowledge. The figures were actually made with the little cubes you find on clothes hangers in shops. To finish them I painted them in their respective colours and finished with details painted using posca pens. For Spider-Man I designed packaging inspired by the packaging seen used for star wars figures from the 70s and 80s. I think this project shows a range of common inspirations joined together in the most unlikely of ways.

Beauty & The Beast (Against Animal Testing)

I have exhibited a collection of artworks to protest against animal testing. 3 illustrations of a guinea pig, rabbit and mouse, which are backed onto wood, to represent animals that are tested on. I have also created 3 plaster sculptures; 2 rabbit heads and the third is a rabbit's head combined with a recycled perfume bottle. These represent animal cruelty in the perfume industry. In addition I have exhibited an illustrated comic strip. This is to convey the cycle of animal cruelty involved in cosmetics. Furthermore I have created a linoleum relief print; an anti animal testing protest poster. Finally I have created branding and a logo for my campaign. Along with promotional items such as posters, flyers, bookmarks, badges and stickers. My aim with this project was to raise awareness about animal testing and expose big companies who shamelessly force animals to endure cruel conditions and inhumane testing.

Weapon Concept Art

I have exhibited a collection of weapon concept sketches which could be used in a video game. My theme of concept art meant that I had to explore a large range of different weapons through history and media. My work shows progression across a range of different pieces as thumbnail sketches become their final variation. The main focus of the work is to show the process that goes into designing different weapons for use in different games and media as a concept artist may also work on different types of movies.

Japanese building

I have created a clay sculpture which represents Japanese buildings that focuses on nature. With my theme surrounding greenery and Japanese architecture, I have not only created a clay sculpture but also shown how nature can take over a building and create a more peaceful atmosphere. I included more vibrant colours, so that the building would stand out from the greenery.

Surrealism Horror

I wanted to create something that captured the range of my interests, which I had to sacrifice to pursue an art career. For this, I created a surrealist piece that combined all of these elements, with themes of horror within. Inspired by artists Zhao Xiaoli, and Michael Cheval, I created something that appeared beautiful, but within the details, had a darker tone. The chaotic look that the surrealism art movement is a symbol for, makes these elements come together, into something that fits the genre and displays my interests in an interesting way. Working with acrylics was successful, as the pastel colours I chose for the theme stands out against the horror aspects. It was challenging to make something that captured all my interests, but this piece tied them together, and represents my personality as an aspiring games artist.

Space

I have exhibited a 3D mixed media art piece showing the differences other planets could have within other solar systems. I researched some of the differences these planets could have and portrayed this in my own style. I have presented an art piece that shows some of these potential differences including the sky, as well as the differences in having a populated planet or a derelict planet. I have displayed one of the backgrounds to be similar to ours to show that there may be other planets/solar systems like ours, as well as highlighting the possibility that we may also find unusual coloured planets/solar systems.

Cut My Hair

For my exhibition, I present to you an animation themed around self imagery. In this, a girl is unhappy with her appearance and that unhappiness is draining to her mental health. In an attempt to feel good about herself she decides to cut her hair. She goes through many hair cuts trying to find what makes her happy. After a long time she finally finds a style that boosts her confidence. The point is that your image of yourself is often bad, people aren’t too happy with the way they are and want to change that. Their main concern is what people think of them but you should not be concerned with what others think, you are beautiful the way you are and people should love you for you. Don’t fill your mind with negatives, be positive and believe in yourself!

Piece of Meat

The tapestry showcases the fear men have of powerful women and it embodies female rage and sexuality throughout history. I’ve created a storyline which takes elements from Greek Mythology and history. My character Lilith is a succubus who represents sexual empowerment and strength, she appears in all illustrations suggesting she has lived long life and experienced many historical events. Lilith isn’t a physical form, but a mindset. She symbolizes years of oppression and rage in women. Lilith lies within every woman, she allows them to be strong and fight. This piece responds to the sexual abuse and harrassment women face on a daily basis. Women are seen as a piece of meat by men. Hand-painted traditional tattoo designs sit on leather and fake skin, stitched to give a Frankenstein's monster appearance. I was influenced by classic horror films of the 70s/80s/90s. The aim of this piece is to disturb and encourage the viewer to self reflect.

Swings & Roundabouts

I have created a series of reworked and upcycled garments using screenprinting and Japanese embroidery techniques. I created a photoshoot and an informative zine to carry my message to a wider audience. I have created this project to inspire others and show that there are so many different ways to participate in circular fashion and to upcycle and restyle their wardrobes. Circular Fashion is a method of fighting climate change and protecting the planet's ecosystems by preventing clothing from going to landfill and extending the lifespan of a garment. Although it won’t solve climate change or economic crisis; the rate of consumerism of new products must be reduced dramatically and by reworking and mending second-hand or vintage garments, it slowly starts reducing the amount of new products going into circulation.

Imagination of a Goddess

I have exhibited an animation with music which represents my attempt at a visual image for the word ‘imagination’. With this piece I have attempted to show how the imagination from my point of view is portrayed, and used the eye on the forehead as a gateway to my mind where my imagination lies. The dark background makes the globe become the center of attention as that would be where the elements and sources of my imagination would go and be formed. I viewed myself as a godly being as I am the one that is in control of the creations that I make using my imagination.

Bio Ceramics

My piece is inspired by Bio Art which is an art practice where artists work with biology like bacteria and living organisms to create their work like for example Petri dish mold art which is typically seen as disgusting and unpleasant, but the artist makes the piece look beautiful and pleasing to the eye; juxtaposing the idea of mold and how we usually view it. However those art pieces cannot be permanently preserved and put up on a wall or shelf which is something I wanted to change by creating my ‘Bio Art’ using clay that I sourced myself so that it can last forever.

Silly Little Dudes

I have exhibited two shirts with two very different messages. I used fabric paint to hand paint each shirt. I wanted to depict the drastic contrast between art and person. Every person has their own taste and style regardless of what they may seem and I think that these silly little dudes could resonate with others that may have struggled between doing things that they like in contradiction of what others may think.

Weapons of Beauty

I have exhibited a collection of nail designs to show different types of nails which could be worn throughout the day. I have explored different nail techniques, such as finding a quicker way to make marble nails and to create my designs to ensure a refined, professional finish. I currently run my own press-on nail business called “Nails by Amira”, which you can visit @__Nailsbyamira__ on Instagram.

Nightmares

I am exhibiting both a piece of 4D and 2D art to showcase the theme of nightmares. I have taken inspiration from numerous horror films including ‘Skinamarink’, ‘Midsommar’ and ‘Hereditary’. I chose the theme horror as it's something that interests me as the powerful emotions and reactions it can cause. I chose to do 4D as it is a medium I enjoy and have been successful in in the past, as I like how it can display more complex ideas and properly tell a story. For the 2D piece I chose to make a piece portraying the happenings in the film, heavily inspired by the intro of midsommar that shows basically the whole film. To make this I used watercolor and pencils to portray the folk painting vibe. I wanted my piece to include both mine and other people’s common nightmares to help materialize people's fears for a deeper reaction to my film.

Tattoo Concept

I have exhibited a piece that is inspired by traditional Japanese bodysuit tattoos as well as three smaller designs that are just personal drawings that are in my own style. The three smaller designs are all digitally created on procreate and then the larger design was created using watercolor paints and pencils, sharpies and posca pens. To increase the contrast and saturation throughout my art,  I decided to use watercolor paper and to fit my design onto it, it was best to use 3 sheets of around A2. The design itself is themed around the idea of nature or a river scenario and so it includes floral elements and the Japanese koi fish. I chose to look into this style, specifically,  as it was an area I had yet to experiment with and I felt that my FMP would be a good time to do so. I hope to display this work within my tattoo portfolio.

Prop Making

I have exhibited a prop model of a weapon from the franchise Fallout. I made this rifle because I have a very keen interest in model and prop making so this project piqued my interests. I personally am a massive fan of the Fallout franchise and wanted to dedicate something towards it. Fallout has been a large part of my life as it is one of the few games me and my Dad bond over. I was introduced to the Fallout franchise at a young age and since then I instantly fell in love with it, from the gameplay to the weapons I loved it all. I used a soft wood base and stained it, then screwed on the barrel and attachments. Posca Pens were used for the custom designs on the side.

Dragon’s Lair

This piece was inspired by my long standing love of Medieval Fantasy. The diorama was created with the aim of creating a landscape that could be referenced to create a video game universe. Materials used include XPS foam, Epoxy resin, and smaller scrap materials such as wooden lollipop sticks, and clay. My aim for this was to have the Dragon’s Lair being the main focus, with the crystals and treasure emphasizing the idea of a hoard. The wizards’ hut fit in nicely with the fantasy theme, and added another layer of depth and narrative to the piece. Layer by layer, I used various techniques from painting, to clay sculpting, in order to create the most realistic effect.

Gilded Glamour

I have exhibited an evening gown designed around the theme of an era in fashion known as the Gilded age (1930’s). My dress was inspired by costume designs and designers such as Madeleine Vionnet who was famous for draping techniques and couture evening gowns. Her simplicity and design aesthetic appealed to me. My gown represents a time where women in society dressed in a way that showed wealth and social status. Dressing in gowns for dinner was a normal everyday thing for women in these times which is entirely different to fashion in our era which has always influenced me on how historically fashion has evolved.

Idioms

For my piece I wanted to focus on the abstract and nonsensical nature of idioms within the English language. I decided to create these pieces using a traditional format (painting) to juxtapose with the weird reality encapsulated within these sayings.

Duality Of Life and Death

For this piece, I wanted to use my creative practice to evoke emotions allowing the audience to create a narrative. My passion being the design of buildings and their interiors, this project was right up my street. I based my theme on the mistreatment of women throughout history. Making an environment at which most of these horrendous outbursts would occur, gives us more of an insight of what life was like back then for a domestic housewife. Although disheartening having moss and vines consuming the ornate carpentry and intricate fireplace could be seen as Mother Earth re-claiming her territory. I became engrossed in not only the appearance but the storyline and message behind my maquette. Everything placed, is placed with purpose and meaning. Ultimately giving you an insight of my passion as an aspiring architect.

Humans in Nature

I have exhibited a collection of four sculptures. Tiny people made out of plaster, clay and recycled materials are climbing. This represents, in a fun, colorful and positive way, that humans are actually striving to make a positive impact on our environment. It shows that we don’t have to work against nature, we need to work with it in order to save the world and make a better, healthier place for future generations.

Abandoned

I have created a diptych painting of the burnt-down church in Ipswich, Upper Orwell Street, using acrylic paint. This church has been left how it is for many years and is still waiting to be changed, which it most likely will stay the same for many more years. I hate to see buildings once with life get left to sit and look dull.
